The Western Blonde Morel and the Western Grey Morel are actually two different colors of the same species of mushroom, Morchella esculenta. The grey colored ones are the young fresh grey morels that gradually turn blond as they age or are exposed to sunlight. They can always be identified by their smoke colored stems and thick meaty double walls.
